What are the benefits of YinYoga?

Post by Bernie »

Where to start?

The book YinSights, which you can read entirely online by clicking the YinSights tab to your left, has a detailed and full explanation of the myriad benefits of Yin Yoga, as well as yoga in general. You could choose to start here: http://www.yinyoga.com/ys1_2.0_ourbodie ... nefits.php

In short, you can experience and gain benefits in a number of different categories. Just read all the posts in this forum to discover individual stories, but I like to group the benefits into four major areas:

1 - Physical and physiological benefits
2 - Energetic benefits
3 - Emotional and Mental benefits
4 - Spiritual and meditative benefits

This chapter of YinSights summarize four key benefits for our bones and joints. http://www.yinyoga.com/ys1_2.2.7.2.0_yi ... joints.php. Here you will discover that Yin Yoga is similar to the Western application of traction to our deeper connective tissues. There are benefits to the joints, the bones, the ligaments and the deep fascia from this practice.

And this section talks about the Energetic benefits: http://www.yinyoga.com/ys1_3.3.0_wester ... energy.php. Here you will discover that Yin Yoga helps to stimulate the flow of energy through the body, similar to an acupuncture session, and removes blockages to the movement of energy.

From a mental, emotional and meditative point of view, you can check out the chapters beginning here: http://www.yinyoga.com/ys1_4.3.0_buddhist_view_mind.php. Here you will survey the many ways we can improve the quality of our lives through enhanced mindfulness and concentration.

The best way to really learn about the benefits of this practice is to do it. Learn first hand how you feel and gain from Yin Yoga.

Have fun exploring!
