Post by gregor »

Dear Bernie,

you mentioned in an earlier post reply, that yin yoga is good for strengthening the joints. could you please refer to some postures that are especially strengthening knee and elbow joints?

Thank you!

Yin Yoga for the joints

Post by Bernie »

Hi Gregor ... yes, one of the main reasons many people do Yin Yoga is to strengthen the joints. If you visit the tab on the left that is labelled Yin Asanas, you will find in each asana listed the joints that are affected by the pose. There are a couple of dozen to choose from but to work the knees specifically, you could try Saddle Pose. If that is not available because it is too much, try simply sitting on your heels for 3 ~ 5 minutes. Straddle fold can also stress (in a healthy way) the inner knees.

In the upcoming YinSights Newsletter (due out probably next week) I will offer some more ideas for using Yin Yoga for the knees, but it will be much of what we have already discusssed before. However, to work the elbows, you may want to look at the most recent newsletter where we talk about Yin Yoga for the upper body. Check out this article for some ideas.

Cheers
