Re: Yin yoga and healthy bone

Toaster, you asked, "should I avoid any yin postures?" Never is never correct, but I cannot think of any yin yoga posture that would lower your bone density or make your bones weaker. Of course, you can do too much of anything, but as long as you pay attention, stay out of pain, and don't go overboa...

Re: Yin yoga and healthy bone

For your hips, I would not "prescribe" Yin Yoga but standing yang postures, walking and weight training (squats, deadlifts, etc.) Yin yoga maybe helpful for your spine — Sphinx, Cobra, Saddle. But, again, I think resistance training would be even more effective: the same weight training for the hips...

Re: Abnormal flexibility

There are some people with very shallow acetabula which provides for a much greater range of movements in all direction. Or they may have a longer femoral neck. Or both! These people, however, may not have as much stability in their hip joints and, as mentioned in Your Body, Your Yoga (page 108), th...

Re: A sequence for kneeling posture

There is a philosophy in yoga that the best way to prepare for a particular pose is by doing that particular pose! Thus, if you want to be able to sit on your heels longer, then sit on your heels more. One way to do this is to develop a new life habit of sitting on the floor! Living on the fl...

Re: A deep emotional edge

Hi Tam It is an interesting topic. Here are some of my thoughts. Just as we are not physical therapists or doctors and cannot (or even if you are a doctor….then should not) give medical advice on any physical ailments, disease or conditions during a yoga class, we are also not psychotherapists. We m...

Re: Hip rotation in relation to pelvic alignment

Hi Skyland Your question regarding how to stretch or open your hips for more external rotation is basically the same question you have been asking in other posts: my answer will be the same, so I refer you back to those threads . My only other suggestion for you is to spend a bit of time and go see ...

Re: A substitute for shoelace

In the Complete Guide to Yin Yoga there are several options offered for Shoelace. Have you checked those? Here are the YinSight's versions: Alternatives & Options to Shoelace: If hips are tight, sit on a bolster to tilt them forward. If the bottom knee complains, do the pose with the bottom leg stra...

Re: A question about Femoral version

Quick questions often require the longest answers! The short answer is, “yes!” For the full answer, I suggest you look at pages 110-114 and 124-151 in Your Body, Your Yoga . In general, femoral torsion can limit rotation of the neck of the femur in the hip socket due to contact (impingement or compr...

Re: plantar Fascia

As I understand the new views on plantar fasciitis, it is more properly called plantar fasciosis. The inflammation (itis) is not the cause of the problem but a result of the problem. I found this 2019 review interesting. They state towards the end, Although systematic reviews and meta-analyses have ...

Re: Trembling legs - Hamstring stretch

Hi Tove 1) What causes trembling for you? I don't know what is causing your reaction. It could be soooooo many things. You want some speculations? Muscles, when tired, sometimes spasm (tremble) or cramp. Also, if you over stretch the "stretch receptors" in a muscle, they may turn on to contract the ...

Re: Posterior pelvic tilt

It depends upon what is causing your posterior pelvic tilt. I would suggest you get assessed. Is it due to muscle weakness in the quads or back muscles? If so, Yin Yoga will not strengthen these areas. Is it due to tightness in the hamstrings or abdominal ? Many people have a posterior pelvic tilt w...
