Jennifer Crescenzo Jennifer Crescenzo     Melbourne

Jennifer's training began in 2004 at a Sivananda Ashram, expanding to include everything from the precision of Iyengar to the electricity of Shiva Rea. In 2009, she discovered Paul Grilley. His inquisitive approach to the body and the grounding stillness of yin postures fundamentally changed Jennifer's yoga practice. Inspired, she began teaching Yin Yoga and now leads Yin Yoga classes, workshops, and teacher training in Australia and New Zealand. She has completed Level 1 & 2 Yin Yoga training with Paul Grilley and her continuing studies include Tom Myers pioneering work with myofascial meridians and Leslie Kaminoff's anatomy of breathing. She is also influenced by her study of Taoist martial arts. Over time, Jennifer found that Yin postures were even more potent when combined with fluid circular movements that enhance blood and chi flow. Her classes weave together gentle flowing sequences and still yin postures to soften the body, enhance the breath, and quiet the mind.

In 1989 Trish began her journey with yoga when she became pregnant with her first daughter, and continued practising yoga for a number of years. In 2004 she studied to become a teacher at Samadhi Yoga in Sydney and the rest is history. I have found a place where I can feel safe and peaceful with myself and a place from where I can begin to accept, nurture and grow as a person. To be happy is a choice we can all make and give back to the Universe."

Christiana Meißnitzer Christiana Meißnitzer    Vienna & Salzburg

I was first introduced to Yoga in 1999 in California. I started out with Vinyasa Yoga and Bikram Yoga and have completed several Teacher Trainings over the next years. Starting to teach in 2002 in Vienna, I practiced furthermore with Tony Sanchez in San Francisco and Mexico (Yoga Challenge Teacher Training), in India at the Bishnu Gosh College (Kalkutta), and got the Hot Vinyasa Flow Certificate (by Jimmy Barkan, in Fort Lauderdale). I am registered with Yoga Alliance (RYT 200, and with more than 1,000 hours of Teacher Trainings).

I discovered Yin Yoga at around 2004. It became an important part of my own personal practice, and finally in 2010 I completed the 100hours Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Paul and Suzee Grilley in Hamburg. Ever since then my Yin Yoga practice has deepened and I like to pass it on in my classes. Generally I teach Vinyasa with Yin Yoga Elements, that's why I like to call it "YinYogaFlow". I am deeply grateful for Yin Yoga and its effects on my whole Yoga and Meditation practice and in my classes.

Dace Osleja Dace Osleja     Bruxelles

Dace started to practise yoga in early 2005 as part of upgrading her quality of life after moving to Brussels. She feels fortunate to having followed workshops with such teachers as R.Sharath Jois, Donna Farhi, David Swenson, Gurmukh and Jayendra Hanley. A major turning point in her practise was teacher training on Yin yoga and anatomy with Paul and Suzee Grilleys in 2010. Having completed two more teacher training courses with the Grilleys in 2013, Dace is looking forward to sharing this insightful yoga style with interested yogis in Belgium.

Debby Sereda Debby Sereda     Calgary

Debby has been teaching Yoga since 2006 and has a special interest in Yin Yoga. She focuses on energy meridians and chakras in her classes, to move the students into a deeper yoga experience. Debby teaches her students to move and explore the poses in their unique bodies. She encourages students to move fluidly in their practice embracing the deeper sensations a pose can bring.

Whether we are moving in a dynamic flow or holding in stillness a deep Yin pose, it is essential that we begin as students to move away from focusing on the physical discomforts a pose can bring to a deeper awareness and meditation within the hold. It is through this awareness we can bring harmony and balance, not only into our practice, but our lives. Debby has studied with Paul Grilley receiving her 200 hour Yin Yoga certification from him and is Yoga College of Canada Certified (300 hour).

Ruth Williams Ruth Williams    Edmonton

Ruth decided to try this "yoga thing" almost 10 years ago for a lark and has not looked back since. She was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and came out to Alberta just over a year ago to practice as an attorney. Upon moving to Edmonton she discovered Moksha Yoga Edmonton and found in it a second home and wonderful yogic community.

From the moment Ruth took her first yin yoga class she immediately felt a deep connection to the practice. It marries the physical and meditative benefits of yoga perfectly. She has just completed a yin yoga training course at the Sea-to-Sky Retreat Centre in British Columbia lead by Bernie Clark. Ruth is excited about sharing her passion for yin yoga with her fellow yogis at MYE.

Mati Messager Mati Messager RYT200    Edmonton

When Mati came across Yin Yoga she loved everything about it. This was really what she was looking for, the slow pace, the inner and quiet practice, the hip opener postures which are so good for your knees. This particular attention given to the body seemed to be most profound and intelligent. After teaching it for a few years now, this yoga practice remains her favorite and is a real delight to teach. She also incorporates some psoas awareness and release work into each session.

Mati is a 200hrs Certified Yoga Teacher with YogaWorks and took her Yin Yoga Teacher Training at Semperviva Vancouver with Bernie Clark and Paul Grilley. She also trained with Liz Koch in Psoas Awareness and Release.

Karen Toohey Karen Toohey    Lethbridge

I practiced Sivananda yoga in the 70's to relive stress during university days in Montreal. When I moved out west, Iyengar was popular, but it was really Ashtanga that enticed me to keep a steady practice and take teacher training in 2009 with the Yoga Alliance certified, Trinity/Gaiatri program. At the moment I am teaching Ashtanga basics, Flow, and senior's yoga.

My day job as an entomologist, involves hours sitting at a microscope. Since discovering and practicing Yin yoga, I have noticed that the lower back ache that I had developed has disappeared! More importantly, the long held meditative poses have encouraged present mindedness, increased flexibility and profound relaxation.

In May 2013, 60 hours of Yin Teacher Training was completed with Bernie Clark and Diana Batts, and I look forward to passing along this ancient, yet upcoming practice.

Nicole Schulz Nicole Schulz    Red Deer

Yin Yoga got me hooked ever since I stepped into my first yin class! I did not know what to expect at all, the only thing I noticed was that my body and my mind were craving for this type of yoga. Yin yoga changed my style of teaching, my personal practise. After completing my 200 hours TT with SOYA South Okanagan Yoga Academy, I took my first 35hr. yin yoga training in 2011. The 50hr. training with Bernie Clark and Diana Batts in 2013 totally opened new perspectives and was definitely a huge enrichment.

As Bernie says, "Yin is in"; I look forward to sharing this beautiful yoga style with everybody. Bring some yin into your daily lives and balance out some yang.

Bernie Clark Bernie Clark ERYT 500     Vancouver, B.C.

Bernie has been teaching yoga and meditation since 1998. He has a bachelor degree in Science from the University of Waterloo and combines his intense interest in yoga with an understanding of the scientific approach to investigating the nature of things. His ongoing studies have taken him deeply inside mythology, comparative religions and psychology. All of these avenues of exploration have clarified his understanding of the ancient Eastern practices of yoga and meditation. His teaching, workshops and books have helped many students broaden their own understanding of health, life and the source of true joy.

Bernie's yoga practice encompasses the hard, yang-styles, such as Ashtanga and Power Yoga, and the softer, yin-styles, as exemplified in Yin Yoga. His meditation experience goes back to the early 80's when he first began to explore the practice of Zen meditation. During those days, while he struggled with the conflict between practice and theory, Bernie also worked as a member of the executive team of one of Canada's oldest and largest Hi-Technology companies.

Where is Bernie Teaching right now?
Currently Bernie is teaching weekly classes, including Yin Yoga, at Semperviva Yoga Studios in Vancouver. The Yin Yoga class is held on Sunday nights at 6:00 pm. The Sunday class is followed by a meditation class, led by Bernie, at 7:30pm. Bernie also teaches a Hatha class on Saturdays at 9:30 am, and a Vinyasa Flow class Wednesdays at 7:30 pm. The first Wednesday of each month, the Vinyasa class is the Dragon Dance.

Catherine Merlin Catherine Merlin    Vancouver, B.C.

Catherine made sure there was space for yoga in her daily life ever since her first yoga class, ten years ago with Grant Couture from Wandering Yogis. As by magic, all fell into place in her life. She started teaching four years ago to respond to her need to share her discovery: the inspiration that flows in and enables her to embrace life fully.

Always learning and deepening her practice, one of her workshops was with Bernie Clark where Catherine enjoyed the deeper connection and understanding she felt she acquired with her body during Yin yoga classes. Now she encourages her students to try and include Yin yoga classes to deepen their weekly yoga practice.

I experienced my first YIN class in 2006 while traveling in Vietnam. I was overwhelmed yet intrigued by the physical, emotional & mental intensity of the practice. When I returned to Canada I began attending Yin classes with Kyle & registered to train with Paul Grilley.

PURE YIN is based on my practice & perspective, a Yin with no Yang. I believe YIN is an advanced practice that is not suitable for yoga Beginners or people with certain knee or hip issues.

I love the meditative aspect of yin yoga and strive to teach as unobtrusively as possible, allowing students to deepen into their own experiences. I encourage students to find their own perfect postures rather than pushing or forcing into an aesthetic ideal.

I love leading guided relaxation sessions (or yoga nidra) and usually start the relaxation period at the end of classes with a short guided relaxation. I consider it a huge compliment when students drift off during a practice

Carly Forest's Yin Yoga classes in particular showed her the value of quietness and stillness, in contrast to the busy high paced life she had previously been living. I am a certified with Yoga Alliance, having completed my teacher training @ Moksana Yoga Studio and Yin Teacher Training, with Bernie Clark. What brought me to Yoga was, at first, a way to heal and help repair my body from 30 years of distance running. I discovered that Yoga presented, not only a physical practice, but one that enriched my spiritual awareness.

In my classes, whether it be Yin or Hatha, I try to integrate pranayama and mediation along with challenging poses in a fun dynamic class that it suitable for all levels. My teachers include Bernie Clark, Elizabeth Peckham, Padma Nair and Vishvi Ji. I have spent 5 months in India deepening my personal practice, which I hope will expand my teaching abilities. The styles of yoga that have influenced me are Yin, Sivananada and Akhanda.

Monica Crane Monica Crane     Victoria Brentwood Bay

Having practiced yoga casually from childhood, I became committed when yoga contributed greatly to my recovery from a car accident, helping to heal injuries & bringing relief from chronic pain through relaxation & breathing techniques. Although a dedicated hatha yoga practice helped to strengthen and increase flexibility to my whole body, it was Yin Yoga that finally opened up the area of soft-tissue injury 11 years post-trauma.

I trained as an instructor with Swami Ramananda in the Integral Yoga tradition in 2005, with Kit Laughlin in Stretch Therapy (2008 & 2013), with Susi Aldous Hately in 'Yoga for Cancer Survivors' (2009) & Bernie Clark for Yin Yoga (2011). I am currently training in Acupressure with Michael Reed Gach which I find is a beneficial and interesting addition to the yin yoga practice.

I currently teach 2-3 yin yoga classes/week at my studio: Breathing Space Mind & Body Studio in Brentwood Bay BC (just north of Victoria on Vancouver Island)

Stephanie Calhoun Stephanie Calhoun E-RYT500    Fredericton

Stephanie Calhoun has been practicing Yoga for over twenty-five years now. Her practice has evolved from one of a vigorous physical nature, to a deeply spiritual, meditative practice emphasizing the transformational power of Yin energy.

After struggling with physical limitations due to injuries, her Yoga practice took on the role of rehabilitative therapy, and through consistent practice of Yin Yoga, she has had life changing results. As a result of this, she has been studying consistently with her main teacher, Paul Grilley and his wife Suzee Grilley, since 2007, and continues to do so today. With her teacher's encouragement, she has developed the Satori Yoga Teacher Training Program to bring these benefits to others; both teachers and students of Yoga.

Stephanie is very committed to continuing her own professional development, and continues to study with her teachers on an annual basis, and is an international teaching assistant for Paul Grilley's Yin Yoga Teacher Training programs, as well as a teaching assistant for the Kripalu School of Ayurveda.

Brigitte Marsden Brigitte Marsden    Woodstock

In July 2014, Creative Flow owner Brigitte Marsden completed the Yoga Alliance-recognised Satori Yoga Teacher Training 300 hour certification in mindful Hatha Vinyasa (Yang) Yoga and Yin Yoga. Brigitte's emphasis on mindful body awareness is calming and builds focus while also helping students listen to their bodies and practice yoga safely. And thanks to SYTT's focus on anatomical and skeletal variation, which acknowledges that every body is different, Brigitte provides options to fit her Yin Yoga and Yang Yoga student's needs.

Since Brigitte is an art teacher and writer too, customised workshops and retreats combining the benefits of Yin and Yang Yoga and mindfulness with stress-reduction, art and writing are also available.

Rather than teaching at a studio, Brigitte takes yoga to people. Currently she teaches classes at a golf club and a gym; more venues will be added soon.

Joanne Sherrard Joanne Sherrard     St. John's

I started my yoga career in 2000 with a six-month philosophy and posture intensive with Guru Dayanand M.S while living in Europe. He has been a guide as well as a close friend and I've been dedicating my life to my practice ever since. I trained to teach at one of North America's largest Yoga Centres and have regularly been adding to my Hatha training with specialties in Yin Yoga, Power Yoga and meditation. As a teenage athlete and competitive tower diver I developed a strong sense of discipline and body awareness. Years later, I completed a Master of Arts in the Philosophy of Religion and a Bachelor of Education. The result of these physical and intellectual pursuits is a balance between both sweat and serenity- in my life and my teaching. Yoga changes both body and mind.

Cathy Keenan Cathy Keenan    Toronto, Ontario

Cathy has been practicing and studying yoga for over 10 years. Her introduction to yoga came about by chance when her father (an ordained Buddhist priest) painted The Yoga Sanctuary just before their doors opened in 1999.

After completing her yoga teacher training in 2003, Cathy continued to seek out the teachings of many internationally respected practitioners. It wasn't until studying with Paul Grilley that she took a serious interest in learning more about acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In pursuit of a deeper understanding of the mind/body connection and an interest in holistic therapies Cathy has completed over 2600hrs of study in acupuncture and TCM and continues to study with many inspiring practitioners. Cathy has completed Bernie Clark's 50 hour Yin Yoga teacher training in Vancouver.

Balancing an acupuncture practice with her teaching curriculum has been an amazing learning experience but nothing has taught Cathy more about the essence of yoga and being mindful than her 2 1/2 year old son, Ethan. Cathy enjoys threading her love and knowledge of TCM into her yoga classes to offer students a unique, refreshing and integrated practice

Larry St. Aubin RYT 500    Toronto, Ontario

My yoga practice is a balance of Yin and Yang. After a steady Yang practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga for 3 years, I realized a Restorative session was needed. During my Advanced Yoga Teacher Training, I studied Yin yoga with Cathy Keenan. Now my weekly practice is a combination of Ashtanga, Restorative and Yin. The Yin has been particularly warming and beneficial. This approach is reflected in my multi-discipline style of teaching – adapting the style, pose and sequence to my student’s needs.

My Yin Yoga practice has evolved with my Karma Yoga. I volunteer to help abused and unwanted dogs find a new, loving adoptive home. I found that meditation and Yin yoga helps to calm and relax the dog when she first comes into my care. The dog responds to the quiet, gentle stillness of the Yin pose. I relax into a Butterfly or half-Dragonfly, resting my head softly on a little breathing body.

Ann-Marie Ahye    Toronto, Ontario

An intuitive feeling as a child revealed that there was much more to life and to who we are than meets the eye. Instructed by what was originally a self-taught practice I have learnt so much from what comes through me. While my initial Yoga Teacher Training was in a Yang oriented style, I always taught at a slow to moderate pace with more of a Yin attitude of approach. So, coming to Yin Yoga was very much like a ‘duck to water’ experience for me.

My own practice and inquiry which began in 1984 have been more recently influenced by teachings from Richard Miller, Angela Farmer and Sarah Powers. I teach Mindful Yoga & Meditation which includes Yin Yoga as a significant component. I have taught in Toronto for 11 years and am a guest teacher at Rancho La Puerta, Mexico. I also lead an annual week-long Retreat in Tobago amongst other Workshops and Retreats locally and abroad. I have created a Mindful Yoga DVD and a Guided Relaxation CD ‘Travelling Inward’.

Amelie Beaumont Amélie Beaumont    Quebec City

It was during a research trip to Texas that Amélie Beaumont had her first Yin class and it changed her life. The pace of the class, the long held postures, and the physical and mental requirements brought her to a deeper level and allowed her to calm down and relax in a way that she had never experienced. She knew right away that she wanted to teach it in her own studio. Up until then, Amélie had been teaching Bikram Yoga but Yin Yoga not only changed the way she saw the discipline, but also inspired her to teach both Hot and Yin Yoga. Amélie wants her students to connect with themselves and to find balance both in their lives and in her classes. Amélie studied with Master Teacher Bernie Clark and she truly believes that Yin Yoga is a positive influence that can make your body healthier and change the way you see life..

Yin Yoga got me hooked ever since I stepped into my first yin class! I did not know what to expect at all, the only thing I noticed was that my body and my mind were craving for this type of yoga. Yin yoga changed my style of teaching, my personal practise. After completing my 200 hours Hatha yoga at Yogabsolu and 40 hours of Airyogalates , I took my first 50 hours yin yoga training in 2014 with Bernie Clark and Diana Batts totally opened new perspectives and was definitely a huge enrichment. As Bernie says, "Yin is in"; I look forward to sharing this beautiful yoga style with everybody. Bring some yin into your daily lives and balance out some yang.

After over 4 years of being a yoga student, I took my first teacher training in 1999 at the Sivananda yoga ashram in the Bahamas, and returned in 2008 to do the advanced training. I have attended workshops, trainings and conferences with teachers such as Rod Stryker, Rodney Yee, Shiva Rea, Gurmuk Kaur Khalsa, Anna Forrest, Michael Stone, Ram Dass, Bhagavan Dass, Baron Baptise, and so on... One of the most valuable teacher trainings I have had was with Bernie Clark near Whistler, B.C. Learning to slow down has been the greatest tool for all my yoga classes. I teach many types of classes from hot to Sivananda to vinyasa flow, but I must say the yin yoga is my favorite. A beautiful blend of meditation and posture.

Patricia Dewar Patricia Dewar PH.D. ERYT-500    Saskatoon

Patricia’s lifelong interest has been in studying and teaching different body modalities that view the body as a vehicle of consciousness. After graduating from the Yoga Room’s Advanced Study Program in Berkeley, California she continued to explore yoga which emphasizes "working from the inside out, and from the outside in."

After experiencing several workshops based on Thomas Myers "Anatomy Trains," Patricia focused many of her yoga classes on exploring the inner body through the felt sense of balancing the different myo-fascia lines in asana practice. The next obvious step was to delve beneath the muscles to an awareness of deep connective tissue and joints by practicing Yin Yoga as a complimentary style of yoga. Recently, she certified with Bernie Clark. In addition she is a certified as a Relax an Renew Trainer with Judith Lasater, and Critical a Alignment trainer (level 4) with Gert van Leeuwen.

In 2007, after 10 years of being a dancer, an educational kinesiologist and a teacher for 3 years or so I started wondering which practice would help me increase my personal journey of my body and mind. And this is when Yoga came!! In 2009, I went to Vancouver to complete my Yin Teacher Training with Bernie Clarck and it was the most wonderful experience for me.

After this, to further expand my practice I went to London and completed another Teacher Training with Sarah Powers in 2010, and since then I have followed Simon Low’s workshops to further deepen my journey. Today I am very grateful to the universe and my teachers who have helped me to not just teach Yin Yoga but keep me connected to my passion and share this gift with my students every day.

I met my Yoga Teacher at the right time to change my life forever, and I became a teacher few years ago. I fell in love with Iyengar style and following the steps of my former master, Giky, during 8 years one with Faecq and Corine Biria in Paris then travelling to Bangkok, I explored others Yoga styles such as Asthanga, Anusara Yoga, Yoga Therapy. I met 2 teachers who definitely have had a huge part in Yin Yoga: Victor Chng and Sebastian Pucelle. The more I practice Yin, the more that it improves my Yang practice. Now I mix them both in my classes and of course some classes are completely dedicated to the Yin practice. I noticed in our stressed life in Paris, people are in need for Yin Yoga. Recently, I came to Semperviva studio in Vancouver to deeper my practice and teaching by attending a 50-hours Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Bernie Clark.

Cecile Roubaud Cecile Roubaud    Annecy & Paris

Yoga is a lifetime journey, teaching us step by step the art of "sama" which is about finding balance between the body, mind and spirit. I started Yoga learning Hatha Yoga in France. It's in Mexico, under the guidance of teacher Amado Cavazos, that I fell in love with the Ashtanga Yoga practice. I have since had the opportunity to study while travelling with internationally renowned ashtangis such as : Michael Gannon, Sharat Rangaswamy, Danny Paradise, Baptiste Marceau, Rolf Naujokat , Chuck and Maty and many more.

While practicing the very Yang Ashtanga style of Yoga, I found myself in deep need of balancing this practice with different spiritual paths. I have since started practicing Vipassana meditation and a more gentle yoga such as Yin Yoga. I had the great chance to train with Bernie Clark. Through my teaching, I share my experience of Yoga as an integral and balanced approach to reach wellbeing and inner peace. I am dedicated to helping my student to find and develop their own great potential and power.

Erinbell Fanore Erinbell Fanore    Berlin

I have been practicing yoga for over fourteen years. I fell in love with yoga: with standing still and sweating, with not moving but moving, with needing nothing but my body, mind, breath, with becoming more and more and always more aware of myself and of life. I was first attracted to the physical side of yoga and how through the asana practice my busy mind and heart can find peace and stillness (even if that peace and stillness doesn’t always last long). With time, as my practice evolves and deepens, I am finding that it is also slowing down. I am drawn more and more to Yin Yoga, to stillness, to holding postures and watching how they work on the body, mind and spirit.

In 2007, I became a certified yoga teacher training with Dave Curtis in Cork, Ireland and began immediately teaching yoga full time on Gozo. In June 2010, I did a 100 hour training with Paul and Suzee Grilley on Yin Yoga and Anatomy. Since September 2009 I have been enjoying teaching yin and hatha classes in Berlin.

Sandra Devi started her Yoga practice over 10 years ago, experiencing and exploring a variety of different Yoga styles and teachers. She received her certification (200 hrs, RYT) in Ubud, Bali, the beautiful island of the gods located in Indonesia. For about 3 years Sandra taught and gave Yoga in the north of Bali and was loved and appreciated by her students, both beginners and advanced Yogis and Yoginis. Though she experienced and learned from different teachers throughout the years she always felt most deeply connected to those styles that followed the lineage of Krishnamacharya, the yoga of the heart. During her journey she started to combine different yoga styles and blend them together to create beautiful intuitive flow and Yin Yoga classes, deeply sensing the needs and potential of her students. Her openhearted being and gentle touch of Yoga offers a deep experience for every student on every level. Release, Relax and enjoy...

Ever since I have been able to think, I have loved to "move". Dancing, classical ballett and Voltige (ballett on a horseback) accompanied my childhood intensively. Followed by any type of "outdoor sport" and aerobics instructor my life went on until I became a mommy, in 2004: that's when my life changed. I fell in love with the slow, intense and devoted moves of Yoga. I did my 200 hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training at Planetyoga in Zurich and started to teach Vinyasa and Yin Yoga in Planetyoga in 2009. Soon I will finish the Hatha Yoga teacher schooling of Doris Echlin, BDY/EYU.

Yin Yoga gives me the feeling of melting my being, on and off challenged by daily routine, in one. The stillness in the asanas and the concentration on my breath cleans my mind and restores my body.

Starting my Yoga practise in 2000, I did my first TT in Barcelona (2007) in a dynamic Hatha Style. During my 5 years in Barcelona I started practising Yin Yoga with my dear friend Jose de Groot, finding peace in the troubled city in the long held postures. Coming back to Germany in spring 2010 I was surprised to find no Yin Yoga Classes at all being offered! So I decided to take off to California to take part in my first 100 hrs YYTT1 with Paul & Suzee. I am currently continuing the Grilleys' 500 hrs Training. Whenever possible, I take trainings and workshops with other Yin Yoga teachers, attending courses with Sarah Powers, Josh Summers and Biff Mithoefer. I am happy and grateful to be able to help spreading the Yin Yoga practise in Germany through information I offer on my blog and through the classes I share. After practicing Tae Kwon Do for more than 10 years I had to quit because of too many injuries. I discovered Yoga in 2003 and realized it had a healing effect on my body. I wanted to pass on what Yoga did for me so I did my Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at the Institut fuer Yoga und Gesundheit in Cologne in 2006/2007. Since then I have been doing workshops and Teacher Trainings with teachers from all over the world. Teaching only yang orientated yoga styles for the last few years I really found what I was looking for when I discovered Yin Yoga. I did the Teacher Training with Paul and Suzee Grilley in Hamburg in 2010 and it was the most wonderful experience for me. The Yin Yoga practice made me feel so easy and full of happiness. In my studio I am now teaching a variety of of yin and yang classes hoping to make Yoga accessible to everybody respecting the needs of each individual.

After many years of experience in giving various group lessons at the gym in Enschede (RPM, Body Pump, Bodybalance, Bodyvive and X-CO) I came in contact with Pilates and yoga. The conscious, concentrated way of moving in Pilates and yoga appealed to me. By practicing yoga and Pilates I changed my body and my life. Physically and mentally I became another, more positive, person. I completed an Ashtanga vinyasa teacher training in Amsterdam. And then I discovered Yin Yoga. I did the yoga teacher training level I, II and III, by Emrik Suichies and Catharina van Bemmel. Yin is a wonderful supplement to our yang way of life. Come and try it!

Nienke de Heer Nienke de Heer     Sneek, Nederland

I studied voice on the conservatory and worked as a vocal teacher for 16 years. After this period of time, teaching 35 students each week began to drain me emotionally and physically so I went looking for a different way of working with people. I still work as a vocal teacher, fewer students, teach Yin Yoga, and perform as a singer.

I started Yoga in 2009. From the beginning I was very active and followed Yoga classes around 3 to 4 times a week. Amongst the various disciplines I practised, I liked Hatha and Yin the most; especially to vary between them. In may 2011 I completed level 1 and 2; the first Yin Yoga Teacher Training in the Netherlands. I hope to help people discover for themselves the physical, psychological and emotional effects yoga can have and to find wholeness and balance in their lives.

Nienke also teaches Yin Yoga in Spain in the province of Málaga, around Cortes de la Frontera.

My interest in Yoga goes back a long time. After taking lessons for many years, I started the Yin-Yoga teacher training. I did this at Yoga4U, where I met Emrik and Catherina. With these great teachers I finished the Yin-Yoga teacher training 1, 2 and 3 as well as Chakra Yoga. Starting early 2012, I’ve been teaching Yoga myself. The results are very rewarding and inspiring. Meanwhile I started a teacher training for Power Yoga. I did this with Tonnie Goes, following the Baron Baptiste method. So now my lessons are more Yin an Yang, combing the Yin and Power Yoga. I stay open for other disciplines, like the Do-In style. My journey goes on, care to join me?

In summer 2009 I was travelling in Thailand with the purpose to get knowledge in practicing new ways of Yoga, such as Yin Yoga, Detox Yoga, Yoga Asana. I've got permission from Paul Grilley to start developing Yin Yoga in Vladivostok (the far-eastern part of Russia). With years of life and practice I understood that it's such a big thing "to overcome yourself", and what it means to change yourself in better side. I started doing Yoga in February, 2006.

In the beginning of 2010 I wrote my own book about Yin Yoga. That book includes two parts: informative and practical ones. Informative part tells why is necessary to train yourself in Yin Yoga Level, what positive effects it can give to your body, and what healthful work your ligaments can get. Practical part includes 26 postures. Each asana has detailed description and picture (or 2-3 pictures). As bonus, you can read about usual and medical effects you get after doing Yin Yoga.

Nona travels to teach, gives classes, workshops, corporate events and teacher trainings.

In my classes I aim to provide a space where students can take some time to look a little deeper inside, to feel and explore their bodies, whilst allowing the ‘buzz’ of daily life to take back stage. Discovering that Yin time is as valuable as the more active and dynamic approach in every aspect of life can be a remarkable discovery – physically softening and unwinding tensions, allowing the mind to settle and clear, and finding a way to be at ease even with discomfort, can be a wonderful first step taken towards meditation.

Dharamchari Sudaka    Valencia, Spain

I started practicing yoga in 1987 as a high school student and went on to do Iyengar yoga teacher Training after University in Leeds, UK. After a year in Thailand, attending some Vipassana courses, I developed a strong affinity with meditation. I have always felt that body-work, and meditation are deeply interwoven practices. Discovering Yin yoga via a yoga buddy in 2002 I took to this approach with much enthusiasm, seeing a very obvious and clear demonstration of what I always felt to be the case.

I was fortunate then to go on and do some workshops with Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers to help develop and give confidence in teaching this method. I teach around Valencia, mainly in Spanish. In my classes, which are largely based on the Dynamic yoga form (Godfri Devereux) I blend a more Yin approach. In retreat and workshop contexts the Yin yoga poses provide an easy gateway to experiencing oneself more deeply and reaching into those nooks and crannies other forms of yoga simply cannot reach.

By encouraging the students to practize yoga with mindfulness, integrity and curiousity about their body, mind and breath I help students reach a state of inner peace. Using singing bowls, Tibetan meditation techniques, and hot stones in my lessons I create a warm inclusive environment where they can let go of tension, anxiety and tiredness, leaving the class energised and refreshed. Thomas first found Yin Yoga in books and practiced it on his own, which gave him a beautiful balance to the more yang oriented yoga, as well as all the yang in daily life. After studying with Joshua Summers, he also started teaching Yin Yoga as well as other forms like Yin Flow Yoga, Yin & Yang. He added it more and more in his own classes and now regularly teaches open classes and workshops. His classes also include breath work and meditation and are based on deep mindfulness and stillness.

I started my work on Yin Yoga in 2005. In 2006, after a 100 hour-long training, I received my "Yin Yoga and Meditation Teacher's Training Certificate" from Sarah Powers. I attended the 20-hour trainer certificate program the same year, again by Sarah Powers. In 2007, I attended the "Yin Yoga, Anatomy and Meditation Trainers Certificate" program of 100 hours organized by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers and completed 220 hours on Yin Yoga.

After receiving my Hatha Yoga Trainer certificate from the Vivekananda Yoga Institute (India) in 2003, I started teaching yoga. I have worked with various trainers on different techniques, which led me to Anusara Yoga. In addition, I became a certified Yoga Bugs teacher in 2005 and have been teaching yoga to kids ever since. I have a published book and articles on children's yoga.

I am happy that Yin Yoga is a part of my yoga practice, both as a student and a trainer. I believe that Yin Yoga and its philosophy, shows the way to freedom, peace and happiness for the benefit of all beings.

Jude Murray Jude Murray (Mahashakti)    Glasgow

I had my first experience of Hatha Yoga in about 1991and started teaching Yoga in 2004. I feel privileged to be able to share yoga with the people who come to my classes and workshops. Because I have also trained in massage and anatomy, I bring this into my teaching to guide students through a safe, yet personally challenging asana practice. More importantly, however, I hope to help people discover for themselves the transformational power of yoga and to find wholeness and balance in their lives.

I took my first yoga teaching diploma at the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres Ashram in Neyyar Dam, Kerala, South India in 2004 and returned to the UK to take a further Diploma in Astanga Yoga with Union Yoga in Edinburgh. I completed the British Wheel of Yoga Module in Yoga for Pregnancy in 2009 and a training intensive in Structural and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy™ with Mukunda Stiles in 2010. I studied Yin Yoga and Yoga Anatomy with Paul Grilley in 2005 and have been teaching dedicated Yin Yoga classes and workshops since then. I am registered with the Independent Yoga Network .

Janice Wong Janice Wong    Derbyshire, Glossop

During a class the body, breath and mind are sensitively integrated through fluid and rhythmic movements of steady vinyasa flow and passive long held yin poses, linking breathing exercises, meditation and relaxation practices. There is an emphasis on the internal energetic system, to nourish and bring vitality to the organ and meridian systems. Thus allowing the body, breath, mind and spirit to connect and restoring a sense of well being, balance and harmony. Experimenting with these "tools" of yoga will enhance our physical and mental health, whilst cultivating a deeper sense of awareness and inquiry.

I am particularly fascinated by the energetic and internal systems of the body and how with the right tools can bring a sense of "wholeness" and well-being. My practice of Yin Yoga, meditation and fascination with Chinese medicine has led to further studies with Sarah and Ty Powers - both very inspirational teachers, whom I have completed my teacher training in Yin Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation.

I fell in love with Yin Yoga in Edmonton, Canada and felt an immediate deep affinity with this beautiful yogic practice. I flew to Chicago to do my Yin Yoga and yoga anatomy teacher training with Paul Grilley and later with Sarah Powers in London. I started teaching at one of the yoga studios in Edmonton and within a treatment centre for women recovering from eating disorders, knowing the profound capacity of Yin to help us re-inhabit our bodies, to come home to ourselves, to listen deeply to our bodies and respectively respond. I have now returned back to the UK and feel honoured and privileged to share the teachings I have received at Shambhala Studios in Leigh on Sea and in Southend. I teach purely Yin Yoga and utilise soft music in my classes, sharing information about Yin Yoga, Taoist philosophy and meridian theory interspersed with periods of silence.

Jess Glenny Jess Glenny     London

I offer yin (aka slow) yoga classes in south-east London. The classes started life as my own approach to yin yoga as taught by Paul Grilley, and continue to incorporate many aspects of this style of yoga. Also central to my approach are bodymind principles from Phoenix Rising yoga therapy and from somatic movement practices, so there is an emphasis on looking inwards and fostering awareness of what’s happening in the whole person through the body. The classes are also informed by restorative yoga, in which the parasympathetic nervous system is accessed and profound physical and emotional healing may occur.

I have been practising yoga since 1981 and teaching since 2003. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher, a Yoga Register Teacher, a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist and a Registered Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist.

Regular yoga practise develops our awareness within and increases our ability to live in and appreciate the moment fully. We start to realise the subtleties within and notice detail that we may never have paid attention to before. We learn to really listen to and hear ourselves. We begin to live our life in better harmony with our needs and surroundings. I teach Yin and Hatha Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation. I aim to guide students to feel effects of poses for themselves and to develop an inner understanding and knowledge of how their own bodies work. Caroline Horrocks Caroline Horrocks    Norfolk & Norwich

Caroline has been practising yoga for 14 years and teaching for 5. She holds A C.H.Edu Dip.Yoga and is a Yoga Register Teacher. Originally from a classical dance background, Caroline worked within the flowing yoga styles yoga of Vinyasa and Ashtanga. In 2002 she discovered Yin yoga during a weekend workshop with Sarah Powers. The weekend was a turning point in both her teacher training and her own practice. The attraction to the passive Yin style was immediate. Here was a calmer and more reflective style which, complemented perfectly the more active forms. Caroline went on to study the work of both Paul Grilley and his teacher Paulie Zink. Paulie has been a particular inspiration and Caroline continues to study the medical aspects of QiGong as well as other forms of energy practice.

The classes taught by Caroline combine both passive Yin and active Vinyasa (Yang) sequences to provide a balanced practice cultivating breath, rhythmic movement with inner reflection and stillness. She believes passionately that yoga is for everyone, whatever age or fitness level. Yoga has no end goal, the prize is in the journey.

Mike Morris Mike Morris    Nottingham

Mike’s love of Yoga began in the early 1970’s, when Yoga was much less popular than it is today. His current style of choice is Yin Yoga. Mike’s discovery of the work of American Paul Grilley and of Yin Yoga has been a revelation to him. Mike believes that a key aspect of Yin Yoga is that it is non-dogmatic in that it allows the practitioner to access poses according to their unique individual structure – that it is simple and direct and is accessible to everyone – and that it works. Yin Yoga is therefore a truly universal Yoga. Mike also believes that in the fullness of time, Yin Yoga will gain increased recognition for the superb practice that it is and will become as well known and as well practiced as such established and distinguished Yang styles as Iyenga Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga.
Mike became a certified Yoga teacher in 2003. He is a Yoga Register Teacher (YRT) with the Independent Yoga Network (IYN) and a member of the British Yoga Teachers Association (BYTA).

Catherine Evans Catherine Evans    South Nottinghamshire

Catherine has been teaching for 5 years and practicing yoga for 10 years. Her interest in yoga began with the physical but now fully incorporates the mental and spiritual aspects. The other main influence on her philosophy is meditation and mindfulness in the manner of the Zen Buddhist Thich Nhat Hahn.
