"Yin & Vinyasa Yoga" Practice DVD
Sarah Powers
Sarah's two-hour session is divided into two, roughly equal sections. The first covers
the yin practice, with a half-dozen passive stretches in Reclining Bound Angle (Supta Baddha Konasana),
Saddle Pose (similar to reclining Hero), a wide-knee Child's Pose, a cross-leg forward bend,
a wide-leg forward bend, and a reclining bent-knee twist. Each symmetrical pose is held for
five minutes, each asymmetrical pose for five minutes on each side. The vinyasa, or what Grilley
would call the yang practice, follows the yin practice and consists mostly of a linked sequence
of familiar standing poses.

The Karma Yoga Project presents
Flow and Yin: A Balanced Practice
By Donna Helm-Yost
One of the perks of practicing in a yoga studio is the energy that envelops the room when we are surrounded
by intention and drawn deeper in to the present moment. Because it was my intention to create a DVD that would
be like taking a real yoga class, I carefully chose some of my students and friends to participate because of
the beautiful energy that surrounds them as they practice. It is my hope that you will find strength and peace
from this practice. Join me for a dynamic flow and grounding yin practice suitable for all levels of ability.
Both the flow and yin sequences include traditional Indian sitar music to assist you in reaching a deeper,
meditative state as you practice. The complete practice runs approximately 115 minutes. You may also choose
to practice flow or yin separately. The flow sequence will take you 50 minutes to complete including time
for Savasana. The yin sequence will take you 74 minutes to complete.
Note: 10 percent of the proceeds of
each sale is donated to organizations who bring about positive change on the planet.

Yoga Inspired Functional Fitness
The first in the "Tranquility for the Fitness Soul" series
By Marla Ericksen
Marla is developing a series of DVD’s that reflect the path she has taken in blending fitness with mind-body practices.
The first in the "Tranquility for the Fitness Soul" series is Yoga Inspired Functional
Fitness, a program that blends both Hatha and Taoist Yoga forms while respecting the principles
that govern functional fitness. This is a truly "fusion" workout that will satisfy both the fitness enthusiast
and yogi in you!
"Marla skillfully and sensitively leads practitioners in a wonderful combination of yoga sessions. Her
voice, manner, sequencing and care are wonderful... I highly recommend her." - Sarah Powers, creator of
Insight Yoga
"Marla's program is indeed a wonderful fusion of Yogic and Daoist practice. Traditional hatha yogis will find her flow unique, challenging and yet at the same time gentle and serene. The yoga, the merging of body and
energy, is palpable. After a few repetitions, the practice also guides you mentally into a deeper state of
mindfulness. What more can you ask of any yoga practice than to exercise and tone the body, mobilize your
energy and focus the mind? Well done Marla!" - Bernie Clark, author of YinSights

YinSights - A Journey into the Philosophy & Practice of Yin Yoga
Bernie Clark
Why practice yoga or Yin Yoga in particular? YinSights, a new book by Bernie Clark, has the answers.
In YinSights, Clark explores the benefits of yoga, as viewed by both the Eastern and Western worlds and
relates how it affects the body and mind. Although more and more students are embracing the Yin-side of
yoga, Yin Yoga is still relatively unknown. Filling a void in yoga literature, YinSights serves as a
practical guide for students interested in understanding Yin Yoga.
YinSights is divided into two main sections. The first investigates the benefits of yoga on the physical
body, the energetic body, and the mind/emotional body. Clark presents three points of view those of the
yogis in India, the Daoists in China, and the medical and scientific researchers of the West. The second
section explores the practice of Yin Yoga in detail, and several flows are offered each with different
themes. Slower versions of the normally active or yang Sun Salutations are provided, as well as even
gentler ways to stimulate the flow of prana, chi, or energy. While YinSights illustrates how to practice
Yin Yoga, it is not just for those seeking knowledge about Yin Yoga in particular. The book also discusses
the advantages of all styles of yoga and will be of interest to every yoga student.

Yin Yoga
Paul Grilley
Yin Yoga: Outline of a Quiet Practice brings together in a fresh way the ancient wisdom of acupuncture and Taoism
with Hindu yoga practices. The Yin aspect of Yoga (using postures that stretch connective tissue) is
virtually unknown but vital for a balanced approach to physical and mental health. Paul Grilley outlines
how to practice postures in a Yin way. Grilley includes an explanation of Modern Meridian Theory, which
states that the meridians of acupuncture theory are currents flowing through the connective tissues of the
body. Yin Yoga is specifically designed to address these tissues. For yoga practitioners looking for
something beyond physical postures, Yin Yoga addresses the deeper spiritual dimensions of yoga, with
helpful sections on chakras, breathing exercises, and meditation.

|
Insight Yoga
Sarah Powers
Sarah Powers is widely known for her original ideas and techniques for using yoga both for health
and spiritual growth. Combining traditional yoga techniques with the meridians of Chinese medicine
and meditation, she has created a practice she calls Insight Yoga; a series of sequences that teaches
both the dynamic flow poses (yang) and the more passive resting poses (yin) forms its foundation.
Demonstrated by the author in beautiful photographs, the poses balance gentle stretches with dynamic
moves for ultimate benefit to organs, muscles, joints, and tendons. Powers offers a basic explanation
of Chinese medicine theory, as well as of Buddhist mindfulness meditation.

The Yin Yoga Kit
The Practice of Quiet Power
By Biff Mithoefer
In The Yin Yoga Kit Biff Mithoefer presents 14 poses used in Yin Yoga and explains each posture’s
benefits, including which chakras and meridians will be most positively affected. The individual
posture cards included illustrate the poses, provide advanced and modified variations, and assist
users in designing a personalized practice sequence. The 75-minute CD contains a sample guided
routine narrated by the author, with each pose presented on a separate track so listeners can
rearrange them or shorten the routine as needed.
Biff Mithoefer teaches Yin Yoga at Omega Institute,
Nosara Institute in Costa Rica, and throughout the United States. He lives in Dorset, Vermont.

"Yin Yoga" Double CD Set
Sarah Powers
Yin yoga encourages long held floor poses to enhance the Chi or energy
distribution through the Yin parts of the body, namely the bones and connective
tissues that bind them. These mainly static postures coax Chi into the respective
Meridians (the unseen riverbeds of energy the Chi travels through), thereby
encouraging a kind of needle-less acupuncture treatment. This style of practice,
done slowly and safely, nourishes the natural range of motion of the joints, which
allows for more ease in sitting meditation postures. It also flushes the meridians
housed in these connective tissues, which directly effect/enhance particular organs
in the process. Restoring the flow of Chi within us has a direct impact on our
psychological states, encouraging increased ease of being, a foundation for authentic
meditation to occur.

Long, Slow & Deep
Bryan Kest
This highly anticipated live recording of Bryan's Long, Slow & Deep routine will help
you move into areas deeply and safely with a combination of deep stretching poses.
Only on rare occasions does Bryan teach this routine, but now you can have your very
own recording. Balance your usual regimen of vinyasa (flowing) routines with this deep
exploration. The live, approximately 90-minute recording was done at his very popular
Santa Monica, CA studio, and is in audio CD format, accompanied by a beautiful, 8" x 8"
spiral bound instructional booklet. (Like the other titles in the series, the spiral
binding makes it easy to keep the book open and follow along.) The audio CDs are
segmented into 14 tracks for easy repeating or forwarding. The booklet has photographs
of the asanas (positions) which track the recording, along with detailed written
instruction for key poses provided by Bryan. A nice treat: Bryan Kest is one of the
two models photographed for the asanas.

Yin Yoga: The Essential Practice
Erin Fleming
As a whole, Yin Yoga: The Essential Practice with Erin Fleming
aims to help us navigate and distill what sometimes feels like 'the mud of our bodies' to
achieve greater freedom and peace."
"Erin's delightfully soothing voice and sparkling clear instruction guide
you through a lovely session of yin yoga." -- Sarah Powers
"Presenting Yin Yoga is an art. The teacher must walk the line between instructing and
remaining unobtrusive. Erin Fleming's Yin Yoga does both. She knows the material, has a
wonderful voice and has put together a good sequence of poses. The music and audio were
excellent. For a home practice I think this CD is a great aid. Congratulations to Erin
and her team." -- Paul Grilley

Anatomy for Hatha Yoga
Paul Grilley
An invaluable resource for both yoga students and teachers, this comprehensive DVD includes nearly
4 hours of in-depth lectures, demonstrations and comparisons of human skeletal anatomy as it relates
to yoga practice. Using a wide range of yoga students, acclaimed teacher Paul Grilley explains the key
concepts of compression, tension, proportion and orientation. These concepts help us to understand why
no two people will ever experience the same yoga posture in the same way. Paul's light-hearted yet
provocative approach will challenge many misconceptions about yoga while providing the foundation
for the development of a truly personal yoga practice. This DVD is encoded for all regions.

Chakra Theory and Meditation
Paul Grilley

chakras and the yogic path of the spirit. Never before has this knowledge and these priceless practices
been presented with such clarity, brilliance and accessibility. This DVD is destined to become a seminal
guide to spiritual development. Along with nearly 4 hours of in-depth theoretical presentation of these
concepts, Paul offers specific physical and energetic practices to develop awareness of the chakras, and
describes the karma that is associated with each one. This is followed by meditation techniques that
aspiring yogis may use to purify the karma that operates through each chakra, achieving a deeper understanding
and appreciation for the powerful role these elements play in our lives.

Yoga for the Brain
Your body isn't the only thing that needs to be stretched
As we all know, as we get older we lose strength and flexibility. That applies just as well to our minds as
our bodies. It is just as vital to exercise the brain as much as the mind. For those who want a different
form of yoga, one for the brain, you will enjoy this secular offering:
The Amazing Brain Train
At this site, you can run the demo and gets lots of practice, or you can try out other brain expanding
offerings - all free in the demo modes. Also highly recommended is
Professor Fizzwizzle: great
mind-expanding fun for
yogis of all ages (and in the spirit of ahimsa, these games help people and animals, rather than
shoot them up!)

Integral Anatomy
Exploring Inner Space
Gil Hedley, Ph.D.
In The Integral Anatomy Series Gil
presents a unique look at the layers of the body not normally
considered in most anatomy presentations, which are more regionally based (ie: let's look at the bicep). Here, you will be guided layer
by layer into the deepest dimensions of the body. You will witness the uncovering of various connective tissue layers
that we deliberately target in Yin Yoga. This is invaluable for Yin Yogis who really want to
understand what is happening inside themselves, beyond the effect our practice has on our muscles.
But all yogis will find the exploration of the muscles and their associated fascia fascinating. Highly recommended
is Volume 2: the Deep Fascia and the Muscles, however you will really want to get all 3 DVDs eventually.

Energy Medicine
James Oschman
Dr Oschman has done some wonderful research on the topic of Energy Medicine, which is cited often in
Bernie's book, YinSights. You can learn more about Dr Oschman's work at his own web site,
www.energyresearch.bizland.com. Alternately
you can pick up either of hist two books. His first book is called Energy Medicine.
This book, written by a well-known scientist with a background in biophysics and biology brings together
evidence from a range of disciplines to provide an acceptable explanation for the energetic exchanges that
take place in all therapies. It addresses a growing interest in the field of mind-body medicine and the role
of natural "energy forces" within the body in maintaining normal health and wellbeing. This in turn has lead
to interest in how these energies or forces may be channelled to assist in healing and the restoration of
normal health.

Books by Dr. Motoyama
Here are a few of Dr Motoyama's books that are highly recommended by Paul Grilley and Bernie Clark
|
|
Dr. Motoyama was the inspiration for Paul Grilley, and later Sarah Powers, to delve deeper into the mysterious
connection of the physical movements in yoga and the movement of energy through the subtle body. Sarah has described Dr.
Motoyama as a yoga adept. Dr. Motoyama's brilliance is not limited to his psychic abilities. He holds two PhD degrees.
He is also a Shinto priest, one highly respected in Japan. His ability to move freely between the worlds of the spirit
and of the physical allowed him to investigate his own abilities using the rigors of Western science and medicine.

Other Important Links
In addition to the above Yin Yoga related links, here is another link that every yogi and yogini may
find, not just interesting, but invaluable. Yoga places a strong emphasis on awareness: when we practice our
yoga, we strive to maintain an open awareness of what is happening right now in our body and minds. This
inner awareness serves us well. In addition to building this inner awareness, it is equally important to
maintain and build our external awareness. This link will help you do just that.
Visit www.ClimateCrisis.net to expand your
external awareness. If what you find resonates with you, tell others.
