Using weight in a Yin posture

Post by Laura Hahn »

Greetings Yin Yoga Forum....
I am interested in your opinion on using weights in a Yin posture.

Recently in one of the studios that I instruct Yin Yoga some "Hugger Mugger"
sandbag weights have been purchased from a neighboring studio that
went out of business. They are 10lbs each, 4"x 7"x 17", and I have introduced
them into the Yin class. The students are liking the addition of weight on
various body parts, depending on the the posture being held.

Would appreciate any thoughts, sharing of experience, and concerns regarding
using weights in a Yin Yoga posture.

Thankful and grateful for this Forum,

Laura Hahn

Hi Laura

If by "using weights" you mean using sandbags, great! These can be very effective (as long as they are not misused, which is possible for anything.) You can read my suggestions about sandbags and other props in this article Using Props in Yin Yoga. It also contains a nice video on the topic.

Cheers
